CC2640: Hex file with UART protocol implemented

Hello,

I purchased the CC2640F128RSMR and I want to communicate with it via UART.

BLE-Stack v2.2.1 is containing hex files only for CC2650. Are these hex files compatible with CC2640 also? If yes, which hex file do I have to flash?

If not, from where can I get the hex for CC2640?

Hi Marian,

The BLE SW is binary compatible between the CC2640F128 and the CC2650F128. For UART control you can either use HostTest or the Network Processor example. You will find more information in the Software Developer´s Guide, or in the SimpleLink Academy trainings here: software-dl.ti.com/.../overview.html

CC2640F128RSMR is just an SOC chip. Do you make a custom module by yourself? Can you specify which BLE functionality you intend to achieve. If you just want to test UART functionality. I suggest you to test with UART echo example in dev.ti.com/.../

Thank you for your answer. Good to hear that "xx2650xx.hex" are the same for 2640 also.

Hello Fredrik,

Do you know, for example, if I flash the CC2640 with HostTest.hex, which GPIO pins are used for UART TX and UART RX ?
Do you know if a new CC2640F128 uC is flashed with some software?

Hi Marian,

The default HostTest configuration is RXD on DIO2 and TXD on DIO3.

All CC26xx devices come with empty Flash.

In CC26xx Datasheet DIO3 is stated as JTAG TDO
www.ti.com/.../swcu117g.pdf page 988 , 11.8, table 11-2

For JTAG we used :
- TDO - DIO3 (P15)
- TDI - DIO4 (P16)
- TMS - P13
- TCK - P14

I think Fredrik's reply is based on 7x7 chip. Do you use 4x4 chip?

Hi Marian,

Sorry, I see now that you are using RSM/4x4. My answer was for 7x7 as YK says.

For the 4x4, the default UART configuration is RXD on DIO1 and TXD on DIO2.

Hello again,

Unfortunately the CC2640 is not responding anything on UART.

I flashed it with cc2650lp_host_test_rel.hex and also with cc2650lp_simple_np_uart_pm_rel.hex but with no success.

The commands that I'm sending on UART are the same that I used with CC2540. e.g. 0x01 0x0A 0xFE 0x03 0xFF 0xFF 0x13

I looked on UART lines and:

- UART RX(from CC2640) the data looks perfect.

- UART TX is kept HIGH and no data on it.
