CC2640: OAD question

Part Number: CC2640

Hello,

Customer is using CC2640F128RGZ and asked:

"Is there a way to prevent firmware copy but still allow over the air download / upgrade (OAD)? "

I am not sure if he mean Image A by "firmware copy". Does  Image A permanently reside on flash even after successful OAD?

Best Regards,

Mizanur

  • If you disable Debugger interface, image cannot be read out even after you do OAD.
  • Hello Yikai,

The Idea is - to enable FOTA (over BLE) data will be saved on FLASH encrypted somehow. But we would like to have an option that no one can read the firmware i.e. by connecting JTAG or debugger to the PCB and copy the firmware. But in the same time we as the developer need to have some backdoor (our internal security) that will allowed only authorized people to read it (it required only for debugging session).
Also may be that even we cannot read the firmware but we can load new one.

As per you reply it seems that if the debugger interface is disabled, it is not possible to have the "back door" to read or load again.

    Thanks,
    M.
  • In general, back door bootloader can only download FW to SOC and not to read anything out. So, you can do this on CC2640.
