CC2640: Small size 2.4 GHz PCB antenna

We have to design a small slim relay with BLE and PCB antenna. We want to insert meandered inverted F-antenna from the AN043, but our PCB is very slim, so we think to insert antenna along the PCB. Approximately like this

The antenna dimensions are complitely taken from the AN043, but we are confused by the location of the antenna, we are not sure that it will work well. Help us please, is it acceptable to design like this?

What IC do you have there? It does not look like a TI device.

Hi Frederic,

You're right. At that moment our technical leaders are deciding which chip to put: by NordicSemi or by TI. At the screenshot is a chip by Nordic

If you want to save some space I would highly recommend using the CC2640R2F in 5x5 or 4x4 QFN or maybe the WCSP version.

Placing the antenna as you have proposed may work ok, you really need to build some prototypes to verify. Another option could be to use a corner mounted chip antenna.

if you are looking for smallest footprint antenna, PCB trace is not your best option. A chip antenna would be a better way. Something like this, for example:
