Part Number: CC2541

I've flashed firmware onto my CC2541 with the simpleGATTprofile built in to it and I've been using BTool to play around with reading attribute values. I modified the SimpleProfileChar3 in the firmware to be able to write AND read values. My question is: What do I change in the code that would allow me to write 2 bytes into the SimpleProfileChar3 AND be able to read the same 2 bytes that I wrote into it.
In BTool, I use GATT_WriteLongCharValue to write 'aa:bb' and then I use GATT_ReadLongCharDesc to read it, but I only get 1 byte (the 'aa') back. I suspect that the GATT_WriteLongCharValue only writes the first byte even though you must write 2 bytes of data in the command in BTool.
Any ideas? I've been looking at the code but I can't find where I'm supposed to modify.
