RTOS/CC2640R2F: Getting started with SMARTRF06EBK possible?

Part Number: CC2640R2F
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SMARTRF06EBK, , CC2650, BLE-STACK, LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2

Tool/software: TI-RTOS

Hi,

i'm new to ARM-Processors and i'm struggling since three days to find a proper way getting started.

I'm using IAR Embedded Workbench and the SmartRF06EBK (Rev. 1.2.2) evaluation board, where a CC2650EM-7ID evaluation module is mounted. I also downloaded and installed Sensor Controller Studio and SmartRF Studio 7.

Because a CC2640R2F-MCU is used in the final application, i want to ask if there's a CC2640R2F evaluation module for the SmartRF06 evaluation board?

The application requires  BLE functionality as well as the TI RTOS framework.

We don’t have a hardware prototype with a CC2640R2F MCU yet. For this reason i want to start software development with the CC2650 MCU. I found out, that the hardware specs don’t differ much between these two MCU types. But i have concerns, whether the CC2650-developed-software will be portable to the CC2640R2F afterwords.

So the question is, if it makes sense to start software development with the CC2650 MCU?

Regarding to the TI Resoure Explorer there are the two SDKs,  "SimpleLink CC2640R2 SDK - v:1.40.00.45" (which contains BLE-stack and TIRTOS?)  and  "TI-RTOS for CC2650 - v:2.21.00.06". Although the TI RTOS seems to be part of both, i'm not sure if there's a difference anyway.

What do you suggest what to do next?

Thanks in advance!

  • Hello Alexander,

It might be helpful to take a look at the pinned CC2640R2F Getting Started post in the BLE Forum. I recommend you use the CC2640R2 LaunchPad (LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2) for your prototyping since you will be deploying your product with the CC2640R2F.

    Best wishes
  • It should be no problem to porting CC2650 program to CC2640R2. However, if you haven't done it on CC2650, I suggest you to start from LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2F directly.
