Hi Team,

I have encounter some errors from the field regard the performance of the device while doing OTA process using TI’s stack.

I will appreciate your help, my FW structure relays on the BIM design as given by TI, on the failure scenario the device is being bricked once I try to do FW upgrade,

Suspected issue subjected to CRC calculation of the BIM code, my FW engineer found reference for such issues in attached file.

I have major concern about the impact for our users - I currently held the production line and delivery to users however I already manufactured more than 20K units, and have big concern if I can release the ability to do FW upgrade - this feature is currently disabled.

Please assist to link to the relevant POC in order to try to quantify the failure rate and what I should expect once I release the ability to do FW upgrade.

I must have the ability to know that this solution can be solved with minimal damage especially when I cannot do any BIM update during OTA,

Hi Shlomi,

Are they using BLE Stack 1.4.2? The porting guide suggests a work-around for the CRC issue. Have they tried implementing this to see if that resolves the problem?

Hi Fredrik,

No using 1.4.0 , SW Eng checked and BIM should be identical,

The main problem is that I need to quantify the failure rate, and understand where is the failure occurs, I don't fully understand what is the cause therefore I cannot be 100% sure it will be resolved.

Hello Shlomi,

The issue is the missing VLEN DMA initialization of the DMA Configuration-Data Structure which it appears you have now implemented from our Known Issues page. We do not have any data to suggest how often this issues will manifest if the proper initialization is not implemented in the code. It is our recommendation that you implement the solution from the Known Issues page.

Have you confirmed proper operation when the fix is applied?

Can you send your mail? I had implemented this issue however I have 20k devices on the field and I had limited the FW upgrade ability, I need to know if I can release it or not...

I also have 5k cc2540 in the field with no VLEN DMA initialisation.
What do I do to resolve this issue for those units in the field?

Hello Philip,

I can't advise you on what is ideal for your product since you know your product best. Have you internally tested to confirm that a missing VLEN initialization results in failed OAD for your devices?

If you have a concern about OAD, then perhaps OAD should not be attempted on these units until the BIM can be updated.

Hi Shlomi,

How are you going to handle the 20K in the field?

Are you recalling the 20K or was your issue not related to the OAD CRC bug?
