CC2541: CC2541 with CR2032 Battery

Part Number: CC2541
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: , CC2640R2F

We are using the CC2541 to send BLE signals to phones about events, including time.  We are powering it with a CR2013 cell.  The circuit has a 4.7 microfarad MLCC capacitor across the battery.  When the battery gets discharged to 50%, the voltage drops to near the brownout voltage and sometimes causes a reset during broadcasting.  Is there a recommended value of capacitor to absorb the momentary current?  The battery serial resistance can be quite high but I haven't seen any recommendations as to a value there.  The development kit CC2541DK-MINI seems to have a 47 microfarad capacitor.  Any source for recommendations?

  • Hi Houston,

We do not have any particular recommendation beyond our reference design for this. I would recommend that you do some testing with larger values to see if that works better.

Another option is to use CC2640R2F which has significantly lower peak current.

    Cheers,
    Fredrik
