CC2541: Certification Process

Part Number: CC2541
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2640, CC2560, CC2640R2F, CC2650

Hello,

Question from my customer...

At the moment we are looking at CC2541 which could be a good fit for our application.

From the datasheet it seems only a few external components are enough (quartz, some caps, inductor and BLE antenna). Is it correct?

Could you please tell me whether this component has the pre-certification?

Customer would also like to know whether the stack and the BLE profiles must work on their Host processor (STM32L431). Are there any available libraries?

Plus could you please tell me whether this device is the right product or do we have some other BLE module with same or better specs than CC2541?

In case we use CC2640 or CC2541 we must take care to certificate the product by ourself, and we can only exploit the TI certification for the stack only?

It seems that the chip TI has already inside the stack and profiles to be directly used with an external CPU Host. This would be OK.

I did not understand why you suggest CC2640 instead of CC2541. We do not need to be compliant with BT 5 High speed, but the important thing is the solution must be cheap; so we would prefer to use the cheaper chip.

If possible, in a very schematic way, could you please list the differences between CC2541 and CC2560?

Many Thanks,

  • Hello Fax,

An overview of the Bluetooth certification process is provided in our "How to certify your product" article on the TI BLE wiki.

In terms of product selection, please see www.ti.com/ble and access the upper "Products" tab where you can compare product details on two or more devices.

In general the CC2640R2F in the default Bluetooth 4.2 configuration offers improved active & standby currents, better processing with the Cortex-M3 CPU and greatly enhanced RF sensitivity as compared to the first generation CC2541 wireless MCUs. The CC2541 provides our most cost-effective solution targeting Bluetooth 4.0 applications.

Please note that CC2560 referenced in your last sentence is not the same as CC2650.

    Best wishes
  • Hello Team,

    Thank you for the reply.

Yes I meant if you could highlight main differences between CC2640R2F and CC2541...

    Many Thanks,
