CC2541: CC Debugger cannot recognize CC2541 chip

I am trying to program a CC2541 chip using the CC-DEBUGGER. When I open SmartRF Studio it lists the CC Debugger as a connected device but says that there is no chip detected. The LED on the debugger is also red. I have the CC2541 connected to a SMT to DIP converter, and I have this plugged into a breadboard. I connected the CC-Debugger lines to the breadboard according to section 6.2.1 in the CC-Debugger data sheet. I have attached pictures of the setup.(the red wires on the bottom are cutoff but they connect power to power and ground to ground they just cross out of frame). I have used a multi meter to verify that there is 3.3V supplied to the chip. of our setup.

Hi Rohan Doshi,

Do you supply 3.3V to CC2541 by CC debug? If yes, you need connect pin-2 and pin-9 on cc-debugger

Hi Rohan,

You cannot run the CC2541 on a break-out board like that. For proper operation you need decoupling capacitors and also the Rbias resistor. If you want to run the radio you also need a 32 MHz crystal as well as RF matching components. Good grounding is also required for good performance.

Hi Frank,

Thank you so much! I put in all the components you mentioned basing the values off of this design: http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/snoa922/snoa922.pdf. I also put in the filtering cap/resistor for the Reset_n signal.The LED on the debugger was green and the device was recognized in SmartRF Studio.
