Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2540, UNIFLASH, CC2560, CC2650
I believe that I have installed all of the required software, in the correct order (USBpcap, Wireshark, UniFlash, SmartRF Packet Sniffer 2) ... in order to receive BLE Sniffer data using the CC2560 LaunchPad … but … even though the Sniffer software displays a little of ‘something’ … it certainly does not appear to be the volumes of Bluetooth Sniffer data that I could capture with the old CC2540 USB dongle.
Perhaps someone more expert with the ‘SmartRF Sniffer 2’ software could lend some assistance? I am having difficulty even configuring the new ‘SmartRF Packet Sniffer 2’ software to even sniff BLE traffic.
The older ‘SmartRF Sniffer 1’ software only permitted you to select between the three (3) BLE advertising channels:
a) (0x25) Channel 37 (2402 MHz)
b) (0x26) Channel 38 (2426 MHz)
c) (0x27) Channel 39 (2480 GHz)
The ‘SmartRF Sniffer 2’ software on the other hand, with the CC2650LP (LaunchPad) connected as the receiver, has instructions that advise to ‘(p)ress the Configuration Button to select a sniffer device, frequency band and channel to use’:
So I tried to use the 'SmartRF Sniffer 2' configuration panel to set the Sniffer to watch the CC2650LP (LaunchPad):
But strangely, even though SmartRF Sniffer 1 was limited to Channel 37, 38 and 39, ... Channels 37, 38 and 39 do not even appear to be available on the ‘SmartRF Packet Sniffer 2’ configuration page. The lowest level frequency that appears to be available using ‘SmartRF Sniffer 2’ is 2405.0 MHz … which it calls Channel 11 … not the lower ‘Channel 37’ Bluetooth frequency of 2402 MHz (Channel 37).
I do not understand the configuration panel of the ‘SmartRF Sniffer 2’ software, as it says that ‘Channel 11’ is 2405.0 MHz … whereas, for Bluetooth, Channel 11 is actually 2428 MHz ??? !!!
So, is ‘SmartRF Packet Sniffer 2’ even for Bluetooth using a CC2650 LaunchPad ??? since it appears to not even to cover the relevant ‘Channels’, frequencies, and its matching of channels with corresponding frequencies is obviously not that of Bluetooth …
Maybe the ‘SmartRF Sniffer 2’ is detecting the ZigBee capability of the CC2650LP and is not detecting the Bluetooth portion of CC2650LP ...
Can someone advise on how ‘SmartRF Packet Sniffer 2’ software is supposed to be configured for sniffing Bluetooth Broadcasting Channel 37, at 2402 MHz using CC2650 LaunchPad ?
Thanks in advance.
