CCS/LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2: LCD Display HD44780 and TI Display Tutorial (display.c)

Hello,

I am trying to use the following tutorial within TI Resource Explorer

dev.ti.com/.../

With the LaunchXL-CC2640R2 and an HD44780 LCD

www.adafruit.com/.../198

I have been able to power on the LCD back light and characters using the MCU, but I have no clue which data pins to connect from the MCU to the LCD. I am very new to CCS and am unable to understand the tutorial.

Does anyone know which pins on the MCU are in use based on the tutorial code display.c ? And if so where on the LCD display are those pins to be connected.

Hi Ben,

The Display driver does not support parallel displays like the one use are using.
Most supported displays are using serial protocols (i.e. UART, SPI ,etc). However, it is possible to use this display with the LaunchPad.
You will need to implement the protocol needed by its datasheet using GPIO pins.

Hi Sean,

Thank you so much for replying! My question is will I be able to implement the display tutorial as is using GPIO pins? Or would I have to buy a serial LCD display to use this tutorial.

Hi Ben,

You will need to purchase a new display in order to use the existing examples as is. For example, this display is supported www.ti.com/.../430BOOST-SHARP96

As an advanced option, you could make a new transport layer for parallel LCDs such. (that conforms to the display.h interface) Similar to how DisplaySharp or DisplayUart are done, but this is more advanced.
