CC2640R2F: Iphone X connection Issues

Hello,

We have the CC2640R2F chip on a custom board. We are having trouble connecting to our device from an Iphone X. We can discover the device, but it hangs on discovering services (using BLE scanner). We do not have this issue on Ipad Air 2, Iphone 6s, Galaxy S7, Nexus, and Pixel. Has anyone else had issues connecting the CC2640R2F with this particular phone? Is it a heap size issue? Does the Iphone X require more heap to connect?

Where would I begin debugging this issue? Any help would be much appreciated!

We are using CCS 7.4.0.00015, CC2640R2 SDK v:1.50.00.58. We have a total of one custom service with 4 different characteristics.

We appear to have this problem with all BLE5 smart phones.

Hello,

There are a few things we can try to understand if this is a heap issue, but before going though that path, could you try with a different iOS app. For example LightBlue and let us know if you see the same behavior.

We had tried with a different app and we had the same issue. We tried commenting out large chunks of our code and managed to have it connect. The original heap size of our code was 3994 bytes. It worked when we increased it to 4800. It still failed at 4500 bytes. Why would it still fail at 4500 bytes of available heap? I thought I read somewhere that it only needed 4KB to work?

After testing, I was able to reduce the Ram usage on my device by getting rid of a uartlogger. Having a heap size of 5 to 6K allows the devices to connect. Is there anywhere in documentation that says there is a difference in heap requirements between BLE 4.2 and BLE 5?

Hello Tyler,

We have issues bonding with iPhone 8 and X. The bonding screen popups and immediately get's dismissed resulting in a authentication failure.
Do you believe we could be looking at an similar issue ?

Hello Henk-Martijn,

Can it bond with older iphones? Can it bond with Galaxy S8 or S9? I never saw immediate dismissal during authentication, it always hung on trying to discover services.
