CC2650MODA: Effective radiated power CC2650MODA

Hi all,

IEC 60601-1-2 requires that effective radiated power is included in the technical description of the product. The datasheet of CC2560MODA (which we use unaltered in the design), does not explicitly state ERP. Is this something that needs to be measured or it can be calculated from the transmission output power (we use highest setting 5dBm) and the given antenna gain (1.26dBi)?

EIRP has to be measured with your end product in an antenna chamber. This application note gives an example www.ti.com/.../swra416.pdf

I just noticed you are referring to CC2650MODA. The EIRP number is given in section 6.12.1 of this document.

Hello FI, thanks for the replay.

To be honest I haven't searched for EIRP in the doc previously. Well, the standard asks to specify ERP explicitly, not EIRP. Quick search gives me the relationship between ERP and EIRP as:
EIRP (W) = 1.64 * ERP (W).

Could perhaps confirm this is true? I really lack background in this area.

The peak gain of the antenna on this module is 1.26dBi. This means the antenna gain in maximum direction is 1.26dB more than isotropic antenna. You can use the following relation in this case in dB:
EIRP = ERP + 1.26 (dB)

EIRP is radiated power by a hypothetical isotropic antenna.

I had to come back to this topic as the information shared was not completely true. After a bit of a research I have found several reliable sources that describe the relationship between EIRP and ERP as:
EIRP(W) = 1.64 * ERP(W) or
EIRP(dBw) = ERP (dBw) + 2.15.

Antenna gain is already accounted for in both EIRP (isotropic) and ERP (half-wave dipole), so the relationship between the two is simply linear.
