CC2640: Increased power consumption when moving to v2.2.2. using CC2640

Part Number: CC2640

When fixing an issue in the advertising we moved also from 4.0 to 4.2 support using now stack v2.2.2. Now we see a slight increase in the power consumption and were asking ourselves if this comes from the new stack version or the implementation. I am personally not aware of any reason why the new version of the stack should increase the power. In the release notes it is even mentioned the v2.2.1 improved the power consumption.

I believe it is more likely that the power increase comes from the new implementation but is there any reasons why the stack itself could be the reason for increased power consumption?

Best regards,

Frank

  • Frank,

Stack v2.2.2 when we tested it, was within the specification and shouldn't have increased. However, what concerns me is what you mean by going from BLE 4.0 to BLE4.2. Can you give more details on what you mean by this? To my understanding, the BLE Stack that supports CC2640 has always been BLE4.2.

Also, I would recommend that in the course of your measurements, that you follow the guidelines dictated in this app note: www.ti.com/.../swra478c.pdf

Are yall currently following those guidelines?

  • Thanks for the feedback Evan.
Good point, I was told that the product was listed at the Bluetooth SIG with a 4.0 stack. But the responsible person has not all the history. I will check that the guidelines are followed.
For now let's close the case.
    Best regards,
    Frank
