CC2564: How to improve BLE output power

Part Number: CC2564

Hi

We want to improve CC2564B BLE output power by calling Send_HCI_VS_LE_Output_Power from 1 to 15. But with no obvious improvement.

Attach our bts file, is it any mistake? Thanks a lot.

  • Daniel,

The HCI_VS_LE_Output_Power is used to select the power power level index (not the actual power level). The BLE power level index is always kept to 1. This refers to the power level index 1 of the GFSK power vector. For more details, please refer to the HCI_VS_DRPb_Set_Power_Vector documentation.

For example, I have attached an edited version of the bts file that you provided. The following file will keep the BR/EDR power levels to their default values but lower the BLE output power to 4dBm instead of the default 12dBm.

    Best regards,

  • For BLE, when use HCI_VS_LE_Output_Power command set new value. Is there command to be used to read the current BLE power value?
  • HCI_LE_Read_Advertising_Channel_Tx_Power command read same value(4) after use HCI_VS_LE_Output_Power with different new value.

Please use the HCI_VS_DRPb_Set_Power_Vector command as I attached in my example above. The HCI_VS_LE_Output_Power command shall only be used in the BLE add-on of the service-pack. The HCI_LE_Read_Advertising_Channel_Tx_Power command returns the BLE advertising power that is different than the BLE connection power set in the power-level index.

There is no HCI command to read the BLE connection output power.
Could you please explain what you are trying to achieve? Is it to change the BLE output power to a lower value from the default 12dBm?

  • Dear Vihang,

The aim of such command is just used in BLE add-on. And there is no connection for BLE add-on module, I just want BLE to send advertising event/Beacon packet.

Then my expectation of HCI_VS_LE_Output_Power setting could be effective on the BLE advertising power.

For validating the different value, HCI_LE_Read_Adertising_Channel_Tx_Power command can be used.

And according to your answer above,  HCI_VS_DRPb_Set_Power_Vector is activated on bts file. but HCI_VS_LE_Output_Power seems no effect on advertising power.

I send  HCI_VS_LE_Output_Power command after BLE add-on enabled.

    Thanks.
