LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2: Gerber/Altium PCB File Availability

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2640

I have downloaded the Design Files Folder for the LAUNCHPADXL-CC2640R2.  It appears it only contains text and .PDF depictions of the PCB layout.  When I try to load the .ART files located in the Gerber folder, all I get out is a text file.

I was wondering if there are actual Gerber files available that I can load into a program such as Camtastic.  If Altium PCB.DOC files are available, that would be even better!  While pictures of the layers help, they do not give trace length, width, and position related to the IC.  I plan on making an exact duplicate of the antenna embedded into the PCB on the LAUNCHPAD kit for rapid development.

  • Hi Chance,

The .art files are proper Gerber files. I have no problems opening them in gerbv.

The antenna dimensions are documented here: www.ti.com/lit/pdf/swru120

    Cheers,
    Fredrik
  • I will try opening these files in another CAM program. Thank you.
  • Hello Chance,

The LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2 design file folder contains Cadence design files for the board as well as the gerber files used to manufacture the board. However, I've generated a .alg-file of the .brd-file that you can use to import the design into Altium.

    Best regards,
    Simon

  • Thank you very much!  That is quite helpful.

  • Hi Chance,

Glad to hear that the .alg-file was helpful! Are you able to import the schematics into Altium from the .dsn-file we provide? Do you then have a complete Altium design of LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2 where the schematics and layout are linked together?

    Thanks,
    Simon
  • I actually just imported the .pcbdoc file.  That was all I was concerned with.

My board is going to be wildly different than the eval kit, and my main concern was the matched antenna.  The cool part is, you guys had already built the antenna as a complete part instead of a collection of lines and pours.  Therefore, I was able to just copy this part into my .pcblib and link it to my database library.  Now Altium treats it like any other part in my library, such as a resistor or capacitor.  When I am finished, the antenna will actually be on a flexible portion of the board, with the rigid part only containing the small 4x4mm CC2640 and its related components.  I am trying to wrap this circuit around a cylindrical body and still get similar performance of the Launchpad kit.

This was quite helpful!  Thank you very much!

  • Thanks for your feedback and good luck with your design!
