Questions on the PAN1315, which uses a CC2560:

1. On power-up, does the module send discovery packets without a host processor connected to it?

2. The pinout of the PAN1315 has an I2C bus for an external EEPROM. What is the module expecting on the EEPROM? Firmware, or data (such as ID)? In either case, are there any specifications on required format for the firmware or data?

Hello Inderjit,

Regarding question #1, the PAN1315 does not send any information over the air unless it is requested by the host.

On your second question, it could be used for firmware updates. Right now, the fw update resides in the host.

Can the firmware update be used to send discovery packets at power-up? What is the format of the firmware update? Is it loaded from the external EEPROM and burned into the internal EEPROM?

No, it cannot be used. Keep in mind that it is a HCI based controller and you need the host to run the BT Stack.

It is only for fw updates. Not available to the user.

In this application, the module does not need to receive any data over the BT link, just send discovery packets with a unique ID on power-up. Is it possible to do this without a host?

It is not supported right now. You need a host.

Looking at the EZ430-RF2560 Bluetooth Evaluation Tool (http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders/print/ez430-rf2560.html):

1. It's a bit unclear as to what's included. Are both the USB Stick and Battery Board included in the kit (http://focus.ti.com/graphics/tool/ez430-rf2560-image_800.jpg)?

2. Is the Mindtree Ethermind Bluetooth stack free, or does it involve a royalty for production? Is the source code available?

3. How is the FreeRTOS and Bluetooth stack re-programmed? Is it just a PC serial port, or are more tools (HW and SW) required?

4. Is the schematic available for the USB Stick? On the Battery Board, where is the MSP430BT5190?

Hello Inderjit,

1. Yes, both are included in the kit. Have you had a chance to look at the Wiki? It may help you understanding better the kit http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/EZ430-RF2560.

2.- The stack itself is in binary format; however, you can configure different settings using it's APIs. It has no NRE.

3.- The provided EZ430U USB stick is used to flash the MSP430BT5190 device that is on the target boards. See http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/EZ430-RF2560.

4.- Please refer to the wiki http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/EZ430-RF2560.

Can you check if the EZ430-RF2560 is in stock at TI? It's not in stock at distributors.
