HCILL protocol efficiency wrt power consumption.

I was going through HCILL protocol for WL1831MOD COMBO Module but couldn't find its efficiency of implementing the protocol,
So wanted to know how much typical current consumption can be saved when HCILL is enabled?

  • Hi Raghu,

    HCILL protocol is a sleep/wake-up mechanism between the Bluetooth controller in WL183x and the host processor over the HCI UART transport. Enabling HCILL over the HCI UART communication does not change the controller's power consumption significantly. However, it provides the host a much more efficient way to manage its low power states.

    So the answer to this question varies depending on the host processor, the Bluetooth stack running on it as well as the overall application.

    Note : The Bluetooth controller's low power mode (a.k.a. sleep mode) is completely autonomous and it is enabled by default in the service-pack (WL18XX-BT-SP).
