CC2640R2F-Q1: Output power is very weak than expecting

Part Number: CC2640R2F-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2640R2F

Team,

My customer who develops wireless product is suffering from strange behavior of Tx Power from the CC2640R2F. The measured the Tx output power is very weak than expecting. And tried to measure the power at RF pin directly proving on their own board. It was only -6 dBm even the setting of SmartRF Studio is the maximum (+5dBm). Just to make sure, tried measuring at the same point using the LaunchPad. It was the expected power. What should I take a look into? Could I have your advice please?

 BR, Nonaka

  • Have you removed the component to the antenna whilst measuring the conducted output power ?

Can you share your schematic ?
  • The RF pin is not a 50 ohm point and you should not do measurements here. Do you have a 50 ohm point on the custom board you can measure at?

We can do a quick review of schematic + layout if wanted to see if something can be seen that could explain poor output power.
  • Hi Nonaka,

As we have already discussed, the customer is using a balun not designed for the CC2640R2F. This means that the impedance matching will be off and they will see reduced output power.

The solution is to use one of the filter baluns designed for the CC2640R2F RF port impedance.

    Fredrik
