LAUNCHXL-CC2650: Test BLE broadcast

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-CC2650
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2650, CC2640, BLE-STACK

Hi all!

I want to test the BLE module on CC2650 for distention range.
For example, sending 1000 packets from one micro-controllers to other and receive report: how many packets were transmitted successfully, RSSI and etc.

I don’t know where to start , because I’m not experienced user yet.. Waiting u advice.

  • Hello Galantsev,

First, if you haven't done so already,  you need to download the BLE STACK SDK. In it you will find examples for the cc2650lp(LAUNCHXL-CC2650) kit that you are using.

Flash one device with the host test and then connect it to Btool. Instructions can be found here for how to use Btool.

You can call the `HCI_ReadRSSI()`command from within Btool to read the RSSI. Keep in mind, the value returned here is the 2's compliment.

Then flash another device with simple_peripheral. Connect the simple_peripheral board to Btool following the directions above. You can monitor the traffic from within Btool after it has been connected.

Another option is to use a CC2540 Dongle(Or any other device that the packet sniffer User's Guide says is supported) and SmartRF Packet Sniffer(read the user's guide for instructions on use) to log the packets being sent out.

Hopefully this information is useful and if provides you with a starting point and or options to continue!

    Best,

    Kris

  • Galantsev,

Additionally, I would encourage you to read the scanning and advertising SLA content. scanning/advertisement isn't a guarantee and success will depend on the scanning and adv parameters that are being chosen.

  • Thank u, im will try it.

And also, im did trying make this on SmartRFStudio, but there may use only 1 BLE channel to broadcast.
  • lxrd,

Please do let us know how it goes.

    Best,
    Kris
  • Do you know AP Smartrf Studio? There u can launch transfer data packet between two CC2650, but only on the one chosen BLE channel.

  • Dear Kris, i installed BLE-STACK V2.2.2 (Support for CC2640/CC2650 ), but it not displayed in resource explorer. How to fix it?

  • lxrd,

The BLE-STACK SDK isn't actually apart of Resource Explorer. Sorry for the confusion. The sdk should have been installed in `/c/ti/simplelink/ble_sdk_2_02_02_25` If you open CCS and select this location to import a project from you'll see all of the examples in the SDK.

In there you'll see the host_test and simple_peripheral examples for your device.

Unfortunately, SmartRF Studio will not allow you to listen to more than 1 channel at a time on the continuous Rx mode. For this you will need multiple smartRF sessions and devices listening to the three adv channels.

You can modify simple_peripheral to broadcast how you desire though. on all three channels at the adv_interval you wish. If you have enough devices to listen on smartrf studio on all three channels you can do that. Or rather, a single smartrf session running and you perform the test three times. One for each channel.

That is the best you will be able to do while the provided tools.

    Best,
    Kris
