SIMPLELINK-CC2640R2-SDK: SimpleLink CC2640R2 SDK Version 2.30.00.28 License Question

Part Number: SIMPLELINK-CC2640R2-SDK

Hello,

I've downloaded the most recent version of the SimpleLink CC2640R2-SDK (version 2.30.00.28), found here: http://www.ti.com/tool/download/SIMPLELINK-CC2640R2-SDK

I saw in the release notes for this version of the SDK that the Bluetooth 5 Stack is Bluetooth qualified and is available for production use. When I look at the license file included in the top level directory of the SDK (license_simplelink_cc2640r2_sdk_2_30_00_28.txt), however, the BLE5 Stack section lacks a clause about production and distribution. The equivalent clause in the prior section, regarding the SDK as a whole, would appear to be clause 1.a.iv.

Is the version of the BLE5-Stack included in version 2.30.00.28 of the SimpleLink SDK not licensed for production? As an additional note, the SDK seems to include the BLE 4.2 Stack as well however I cannot seem to find a license file for it. Are there separate license files for the BLE stacks (4.2 or 5) located somewhere within the SDK that I'm missing?

Thanks for any insight into this matter,

Matt

  • Hi Matthew,

Please refer to the following on the right hand side of the page: processors.wiki.ti.com/.../Category:BluetoothLE
  • Hi Matt,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. It was indeed an oversight on our part to not remove the eval statements for the BLE5-Stack from the clickwrap End User License Agreement (EULA) license_simplelink_cc2640r2_sdk_2_30_00_28.txt in the SIMPLELINK-CC2640R2-SDK v2.30.00.28. We will be releasing an updated CC2640R2 SDK v2.40 in early January with the corrected EULA. If this is ok with you time wise, I recommend registering for updates via the Alert Me button on the SIMPLELINK-CC2640R2-SDK product page to be notified when the new SDK is posted. Otherwise, you are OK to use the BLE5-Stack in your product since it is Bluetooth qualified.

In terms of the applicability of the EULA itself, it applies to all TI Commercial items within the SDK. You can find an itemization of TI Commercial components in the manifest file included with the SDK. Therefore, we don't call out the BLE3 / Bluetooth 4.2 stack specifically in the EULA.

Let us know if you have any questions and I apologize for the inconvenience.

    Best wishes
