CC2642R: CC2642R FCC Certified Modules?

Part Number: CC2642R
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2650,

Hello,

I am currently developing an application around the CC2640R2 platform (SABLE-X-R2 module from Laird) but I cannot realistically use the BLE5 stack and have flash space for my application. I have been drooling over the new CC2642R since it has 3X the flash and 4X the RAM, however since my application is going to be a product, I really need to use a module with an integrated antenna with FCC certification. I have contacted a few third-party vendors that have made modules in the past but have not found any planning on using this new chip. I am wondering if TI has any plans to release their own module like the CC2650 chipset or if there is any information about vendors who are planning on releasing one?

Thanks!

  • Hi Joshua,

    Have you asked LSR?

There is not current plan to release a module from TI with the CC2642R. As such I can only refer you to our third party module partners which you will find listed here: www.ti.com/.../third-party-modules.html

    Regards,
    Fredrik
  • Hello Fredrik,

Thank you for your reply. I did reach out to LSR as well as the third party companies a few months ago when the CC2642 was still in pre-production. They were not clear if they were going to develop a new module based around the new chipset. I have recently contacted them again and am waiting to hear back.

Historically, what is the typical timeframe between a new release like this and third parties releasing modules?

In a worst case scenario, if there are no modules released by third parties, what would be the easiest/least expensive way for me to add the CC2642 with FCC-certification to my application. Are there any ways to get around going through the very expensive FCC Certification process? Maybe using a pre-certified antenna or something?

    Thanks,
    Josh
  • Hi Josh,

I would also recommend contacting Innocom.

Unfortunately, without a pre-certified module there is no way around full FCC certification. I would recommend you contact a couple of test labs to see if they can provide guidance on the path of least "resistance"

    Regards,
    Fredrik
  • Hello Fredrik,
Thank you for the reply. I have also contacted them and will wait and see what they have to say. Sounds like I will have to make the cc2640r2 work for near future plans.
    Thanks again!
