CC2564C: Which bluetooth device is the best compatible with different kind of cell phone?

Part Number: CC2564C
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2640R2F, CC2640, CC2560

Hi

Except BLE4.1 and BLE4.2, is there more difference between CC2564B and CC2564C?

My customer want to add a bluetooth device on their product, which used to replace UART to help debug with different kind of cell phone. No power and data rate requirement. It only need best compatibility.

CC2560, CC2564B, CC2564C, CC2640, CC2640R2F, classic bluetooth, BLE4.x, BLE5.x.

I am not sure which one compatibility is the best when it connect with different kind of cell phone. Many thanks.

  • Hi Daniel,

Does the use-case require Bluetooth dual-mode operation (classic BT and BLE)? If it requires BLE only, the CC26xx devices would be a better fit.

In case classic BT and/or dual-mode operation is required, it is best to use the newer CC2564C over the CC2564B due to the following considerations.
    - The CC2564C is BT4.2 certified. Even if the customer does not intend to use the new features added in the CC2564C, having the BT4.2 certification ensures better interoperability and product longevity.
    - The CC2564C has an updated IP in it (newer ROM than CC2564B). Again, this ensures better interoperability with other devices, newer features, bug fixes to some of the bugs found in older devices and better security.

  • Hi Vihang,

Thanks for your reply. It's very clear about the difference between CC2564B and CC2564C.
It doesn't must require dual-mode BT.
For BLE5, how about the compatibility with different cell phone? Android, iOS.
BT and BLE, which one's compatibility with cell phone is better? Thanks.
  • Hi Daniel,

I usually go by "newer is always better". It is true at least for CC2564B and CC2564C when it comes to better interoperability with most cell phones and smartphones out there.

I've notified our CC26xx product experts to help you address the questions regarding BLE5 and BLE-only devices.

    Best regards,
    Vihang
  • Hello Daniel,

Compatibility wise, I would agree with Vihang. It will be best to use a BLE5 device. The reasons include all of which Vihang has described above. But additionally, BLE5 is backwards compatible with BLE4.2. This means it will be compatible with older phones as well as new phones.

When it comes to Android, ios, there is no difference. As long as the phone is BLE5 compliant. Of which I haven't heard of any smartphone not being compliant. It will be compatible. There are no limitations between phones.

I hope that helps you out!

    Best,
    Kris
