CC2540 IDLE state power consumption

The CC2540 datasheet reports how much power the chip consumes in the active state and PM1, PM2 and PM3 states. I would like to know how much power the CC2540 consumes in the IDLE state (this state is very similar to the active state except for CPU halted).

Fabrizio,

The 6.7mA when the chip has low MCU activity (No radio or peripherals, no flash and no RAM access) would essentially be the IDLE state.

The 6,7 mA is in active mode.

If you halt the CPU you will come down to ~4.8mA current consumption (running on the 32 MHz oscillator).

You can further reduce the current consumption by enabling clock division (CLKCONCMD register), however this last step will reduce the clock speed of the peripherals. Using maximum clock division it is possible to further reduce the power consumption with another 1.5 to 2 mA

Ok very good: halting CPU allow to save an important amount of energy, at least 30%.

See Chapter 4 of the CC253x/CC2540 User guide, in particular Section 4.2.

Note that the BLE stack will control the power modes for you. See Table 1 on Page 15 and the last bullet of Page 24 of the Software Developer's guide (SWRU271, available at C:\Texas Instruments\BLE-CC2540\Documents\TI_BLE_Software_Developer's_Guide.pdf after installing the BLE stack) on how to enable power management.
