CC2640R2F: CC2640R2F

Part Number: CC2640R2F
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2640

Hi,

we would use the BOOSTXL-AOA in order to evaluate the BLE-AoA solution for our application. I have a few question which I was not able to find answer in existing forums.

1 - I saw Field of View was setted as -100 deg to +100 deg. How can filter BLE packets coming from other angles be filtered?

2 - Could the BLE channel on CC2640R2 be used at the same reading both AoA packet and information packet for other application?

Thank you very much

  • Hi,
    Have you read the chapters in the users guide;

    dev.ti.com/.../localization-index.html
  • Hi,
    1. You will have to design another antenna board to cover more than what we have in BOOSTXL-AOA board.
    2. I am not following what you said here. Can you elaborate your question? Do you mean that you want to do dual protocol(AoA + proprietary solution )?

  • Hi,

thank you all for your answers.

    1. I need to estimate position of a tag on an ideal semicircle, so in the range -90 deg to + 90 deg. I understand this can be achieved by a certain antenna design. But what about tags positioned out of this range? I mean, proposed antenna design beams is so directional that signals coming from outside the semicircle are not captured?

    2. Tags should send, with a certaing duty cycle, both AoA BLE packets and other application data through BLE. Is the CC2640R2F able to elaborate both AoA packets and Application Data?

    Thank you again

  • Hi,

    1. The current BOOSTXL_AOA design can cover circulare area around it. Let's say if you take a look at antenna array 1, it will cover both front and back, it's just based on the I/Q data, you won't be able to determine whether it comes from the back or front.
That's where the 2nd antenna array comes in.
For antenna array 1, if you place at the sender in front of the array 1 with 0 degree angle or at the back of the array 1with 0 degree angle, it will all report angle = 0.
However, if you place in front of array 1, array 2 will see it as +90 degree.
If you place it at the back of array 1, array 2 will see it as 0 degree. Then based on the result of array 1 and array 2, you can determine where the sender comes from.

    2. In CC2640 2.40 SDK, the CTE is sent at the end of a payload. That means you can send normal BLE payload with CTE.
Please take a look at our software user's guide for more information on our Q4 offering.

  • Hi Christin,

    1. That's really clearer now. Just a further question. Please, have a look at attached picture. I can get AoA on horizontal plane. What about vertical plane? How it is measured?

    2. SOLVED.

    Thank you

    Luca

  • I would think that you need a 3D array.
  • Hi,

could be theoretically possible to use 2 antennas as Boostxl-AOA and combine information to get 3D positioning?

    Thank you again

  • Yes, you can only one two antennas per array and have a 3D array to get the position.
We do have a reference design that's using 2 antenna to do localization.
