CC2540: CC2540 device now Bluetooth 5 qualified?

Guru 22270 points
Part Number: CC2540
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BLE-STACK

Hello,

The CC2540/41 are both showing that they are now Bluetooth 5 qualified.  What does that mean exactly?

I don't see any BLE-STACK update or any other information besides the note on the product page.

Is this a true BLE5 update or is it really just stating that the current BLE4.x devices are backwards compatible with the Bluetooth 5 protocol?

Thanks,

  • Hi Greenja,
We target to release a maintenance versions of the CC254x SDK, which is BT5 qualified. We haven't added any new features, it's mainly errata updates and bug fixes.
  • Hello Joakim,

    Just for clarity,

    1. Do the errata updates apply to new silicon only or all previous CC254x devices?

    2. When you say you haven't added any new features does that mean the current stack that is available for download right now is BT5 qualified?

    3.  Does this version support Mesh?

    4. What is the timeline for this release?

    Thanks,

  • Hey,
    1. It's software updates, so no new hardware required.
    2. Not just yet, I believe the marketing department was a bit too fast on this one.
    3. No.
    4. We are currently working on getting the maintenance release out, although I cannot comment on the timeline as of now. Stay tuned.
