CC2642R: Can't boot for Project_Zero example

Hi ,

We have two models of CC2642 chips, please see the following photos, let's call the first photo as chip#1 and the second photo as chip#2.

About chip#1, it can run and boot for SDK's example(driver & ble5stack).

About chip#2, it can't boot the project_zero example without JTAG debugging, others example can be boot.(we have downloaded BIM image). In the un-bootable

state, we found that the CC2642 doesn't output a 48MHz clock. Do you have any suggestion to us?

If you use Flash Programmer 2 to read chip revision of these two CC2642R chips, what version are they?

If the two boards use the same chip revision, I suggest you to check crystal

Hi Yk,

The 32KHz work fine, currently, only OAD projects can’t boot.

In the ble5stack example, without BIM project can be run.

If you use CCS to debug/trace BIM project, does it work?

It works with JATG debugging.

I still suspect there’s something wrong with your crystal. Please check both 32K and 48M crystals first.

Hi YK,

But if I download TI pre-build image(/ti/simplelink_cc13x2_26x2_sdk_3_10_00_53/source/ti/ble5stack/hexfiles/cc26x2r1/ble5_project_zero_cc26x2r1lp_app_FlashROM_Release_unsecure.hex), the chip#2 can boot success!!!!!

If you download BIM and ProjectZero built by yourself to TI LAUNCHXL-CC26X2R, does it work?

Hi Trevor,

From the pictures it is clear that these are from two different PCB designs. What are the specific differences between the two? There seems to be a series resistor on the crystal trace on the board that does not work properly, why is that? Can you control the failing board from SmartRF Studio, are you for example able to send packets?

It would also be helpful if you could post a photo showing more of the surrounding circuitry.¨

Hi Fredrik,

About series resistor, it is 0 Ohm.(just for debugging).

The root cause of the unbootable issue is that BIM cannot detect external flash. In latest SDK, if it can't detect external flash, it will stop in BIM(can't boot to apps). About chip#1, we use the same flash with LAUNCH PAD. About chip#2, we use the new SPI flash. We add the new flash ID into BIM, Currently, it works.

I guess that TI pre-built image doesn't use the latest version of BIM.
