CC2640R2F: Bluetooth Low Energy software stack

Hi,

my customer has a plan to use CC2640R2F to develop Bluetooth 5.0 system.

When they saw the http://www.ti.com/tool/BLE-STACK, they found BLE-STACK-2-2-3 and SIMPLELINK-CC2640R2-SDK for CC2640.

Should they need to use both BLE-STACK-2-2-3 and SIMPLELINK-CC2640R2-SDK when they use CC2640R2F for developing Bluetooth 5.0?

Or, should they use one of the stacks?

Hi Masashi,

You should use the SDK, this includes multiple stacks for the CC2640R2 device. The BLE-STACK you linked is for CC2640/CC2650 devices.

The SDK has two Bluetooth stacks, one for Bluetooth 4.2 and one for Bluetooth 5. You can use either of the stacks but Bluetooth 5 is not recommended to use on the CC2640R2 device for advanced applications due to the memory.

I would like to confirm the memory size between CC2640R2 and CC2650. You said "Bluetooth 5 is not recommeneded to use on the CC2640R2 due to the memory". Is the memory on CC2650 bigger than one on CC2640R2? Because I found the below E2E.

It seems that it is said the memory on CC2640R2 is bigger than one on CC2650.

Thanks for getting back to me.

Yes, you are correct. The memory on the CC2640R2 device is bigger than on the CC2650 but none of them are recommended to use for Bluetooth 5 because of the limited memory capacity.

My recommendation is to use a device from the CC13x2/CC26x2 device for Bluetooth 5 applications.
