CCS/CC2652P: Information required on the CC2652P development tools

Hello All,

I am new to TI wireless MCUs. I have few confusions on the development tools of the CC2652P controller.

As I can see, both CCS and Sensor controller studio has been mentioned on the product page as development tools.

Whether, Sensor controller studio is an alternative development IDE for CCS? or it's for different purpose only?

Pease help to understand.

Hi Tajpeer,

The Sensor Controller Studio is IDE for the Sensor Controller. Sensor Controller is part of the CC2652P MCU. See, below for introduction.

Yes. I got that information from the documents. But I am still confused between the CCS and SSC because in the Datasheet it's mentioned that,

"The peripherals in the Sensor Controller can also be controlled from the main application processor.".

As per the above statement, if we can controller SC peripherals from main MCU (i,e CC2652 which is developed using CCS), in what way sensor controller studio adds up an advantage?

if we have to control, an ob-board 6-7 sensors, then can all these sensors be controlled through SSC?

Basically, I want to differentiate between the functionality of Sensor controller and CC2562? Which one should be functioned through which tool?

Hi Tajpeer,

See, this video. From what I know some peripherals are shared between Main Application and Sensor Controller. But if for example you access this I2C pins at Sensor Controller you can not access the same I2C pins at Main Application.

You can access the peripherals directly from the main MCU, in which case you do all the development in CCS. This will not give you the lowest possible energy consumption though, as the sensor controller runs much more efficiently than the Cortex M4F. For lowest energy consumption you should run your sensor interaction from the Sensor Controller core and for this you must develop code in SCS.
