Hello,

We want to design TWS earbuds using the CC2640r2f, I am trying to find additional information about the architecture but failing.

My questions are related to the architecture:

The earbuds connect to each other via bluetooth, I am guessing one is central the other peripheral ?
Once the earbuds connect to each other, the peripheral will continue to advertise and the phone will connect to it ?
Once this connection is establish, the left/right channel will be forwarded from the peripheral to the central earbud ?

Hi,

To begin, the architecture you are mentioning seems ok. However I see a few potential problems:

You need to develop an app on the phone to send audio data over BLE to the CC2640R2
Not all the phones have the capability to be a peripheral, or at least, this functionality is not recommended to be used
We do not provide OOB code to support simultaneously two connections doing audio streaming (and this could cause some timing issues)

Thank you for your reply, I wanted the phone to be central not peripheral.

Can you enlighten me how the TWS is implemented in a standard way ? I know there are no reference designs from TI but the CC2640R2F is recommended for this and I want to know how to approach it.

You can find that CC2640R2F is recommend for the bluetooth part of this design. I want to understand how can I implement this from a high level perspective.

Hi,

Thank you for your patience.

I don't think CC2640R2 is the right device for this implementation, I would rather used CC2642R.

TI does not provide directly code for TWS implementation. However, TI just released an Audio Plugin providing a set of examples to stream audio over RF (including streaming over BLE, SUb-1GHz and WiFi). I think this could be a good starting point for you.

Thank you for you response.

I am not asking for an example code, I just want to understand how it should be implemented from an architectural point of view.

We will use the audio plugin to stream from a phone to one of the earbuds and this is clear, but from architecture point of view how is the audio streamed to the second earbud ? Is it how I described in my first post ? Or how is the standard implementation for this using CC2642R.
