CC2640R2F: GAP observer role

I have following questions,

1. I understand that GAP observer role is connection-less and keeps scanning either active or passive. But does the observer role mean that it has to continuously scan forever?

2. GAP SET Parameter command accepts ParamValue of 16 bits so the max scan duration which we could set is only 65535ms, is it? Can we not extend it over 65s?

Hi Deepthi,

1. No, the GAP observer role is not required to continuously scan forever. The scan duration can be set by calling GAP_SetParamValue and passing in TGAP_GEN_DISC_SCAN or TGAP_LIM_DISC_SCAN along with your desired duration value.

2. If you want to scan for more than 65s, you would need to configure the observer to scan indefinitely (done by setting the scan duration to '0') and create a timer for your desired scan duration. When the timer callback is invoked, then you can cancel scanning by calling GAP_DeviceDiscoveryCancel.
