CC2564: Connection issue with iPhone 11

Hi Kien,

Can you please describe the issue you are facing? Looking at the previous post, it looks like it was answered by someone on our BLE device team. The cc2564B is our dual-mode device, and doesn't have the same BLE stack as the other devices. It's possible there is an issue, but would need to understand the symptoms and get logs of the behavior before moving forward.

Kien was helping me to create this thread.  Let me give you some background.  My company launched a product using CC2564B 2 years ago.  This product came with a companion iOS APP which allowed user to configure the functions.  It worked well until Apple introduced iPhone 11 with iOS13.  We started to get quite a number of complaints that the APP is not able to connect to the device. All the user feedback that they have no issue with iPhone 8, XR etc.

Internally, we tried to use others BLE APP from AppStore and the result is the same, failed to connect.  Can TI do a quick check on CC2564B BLE connection with iPhone 11?  Meanwhile, I will try to capture sniffer log when I have a chance to access the equipment.

Thanks for the background. Yes i can do a test of this for you, but please give me a little time. I don't have an IPhone 11 and will need to see how to get one to my house to test.

Have you been able to capture sniffer logs or HCI logs of the issue? Unfortunately we still have not been able to acquire a IPhone 11 for testing. Still working on it.

I was able to get an Iphone11. So far i can't see the BLE device come up. is this the issue you are seeing?

The complaint i received was that iPhone11 was not able to connect to the device.  So i believe advertising (from device) and scanning (from phone) should be ok.

I will give you more update when I get hold of the device and iPhone 11 next week.

Hi Vince,

I managed to do some test with iPhone11 this morning.  There is no issue with ble advertisemen as iphone11 is able to scan the device.  However the is a problem with connection.  Attached please find the sniffer log file.  Appreciate if you could spent some time to analyze the problem.

Hi Kah,

Are you able to connect BT logs from the CC2564x device? I can see in the sniffer the IPhone is doing a connection update then a feature request, but never gets a response. Then the IPhone will generate the disconnect. 

I think Logs from the device should give us the answer on whats going on here.

I did the connection tests with 2 APP, namely the bundle app with the device and a 3rd party APP (nRF Connect).  Please help us to analyze the issue.

I don't see the issue in the logs, other than our device not responding to feature req. Let me work on recreating this and get back to you.

Sorry for the late response.  I am still seeing the same issue with LightBlue app.  There is a timeout in the connection process.

Just to recap.  I am using CC2564MODN, patch 1.8 in my device.  May I know which platform are you testing?

On a separate note, i did the same testing on CC2564C with the latest patch and i did not encounter this issue.

Hmm interesting. Let's see if the service pack version could be causing issues. Can you test with the 1.2 SP for CC2564B and see if the issue is still there?

I am running the same setup as you with CC2564B + MSP432

Hi Vince,

I tested SP1.2 and I encountered similar issue with iPhone connection.  May I know which example code are you testing?  I guess I will have to try the eval board.

By the way, may i know your iPhone model and iOS version?

Hi Kah,

I was using the SPPLE demo code from the SDK. For the IPhone its a IPhone 11 with iOS 13.
