CC2642R: How about low power field sensor transmitter solution

Part Number: CC2642R

The application scenarios:

1.One battery powered collector node, 3 ~ 4 different kinds of battery powered meters (flow/temperature/pressure) as field nodes, transmitter nodes will send data to collector at intervals of 15 seconds to 30 seconds;

2.100 to 200 bytes per communication message

3. Support broadcast or other communication mode to save the power

4. Power consumption requirement of the collector and meters need within 50uA.

5. Field meters may have 1~2mm water film once water has accumulated (meter is metal housed), communication distance to collector is 1~2 metres. Transmission power may be increased when taking water film into account.

Question:

1. Could CC2642R meet the requirements above especially the <50uA even for the collector node?

2. Does there any reference design is similar to this application? Could you please share the resources(app note/sdk)?

Thank you so much

Best Regards,

Tess Chen

  • Hey Tess,

    Using the TI 15.4 Power calculator (http://www.ti.com/tool/15.4-STACK-CALC), based on your requirements listed above I think meeting the power requirement may not be met with this use case. You can reduce the TX power if you are able to and still meet the 2 meter communication distance, this will get you closer.

    Please not the 15.4 power calculator should be used for ballpark estimates, and the actual power numbers rely heavily on the mode selected, the TX power, the beacon order and superframe order set as well.

    This reference design goes over power consumption pretty well, but is not geared toward this specific use case (rather a general sensor end node use case): http://www.tij.co.jp/jp/lit/ug/tiduda8/tiduda8.pdf
