LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2: what difference between the RTLS example under "ble5stack" and "blestack"?

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2

Hi,

I bought "LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2" and "BOOSTXL-AOA" to test the RTLS example.

I tested with "simplelink_cc2640r2_sdk_3_40_00_10" and found the result not good.

I plan to used "simplelink_cc13x2_26x2_sdk_4_10_00_78" to test it again, but there is only support "CC26X2R1_LAUNCHXL".

Can I use "LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2" and "BOOSTXL-AOA" to test it?

I also have board CC1352R1_LAUNCHXL.

Could you tell me which board is better for RTLS test?

Please advise.

  • Hi Zou,

Our official solution for BLE5.1 AoA only works on CC13x2 and CC26x2 devices which features BLE 5.1 Connected Angle of Arrival. It would be best for you to evaluate AoA on CC26XR1_LAUNCHXL. I will ask our RND as to if there is any reason why the CC13x2 doesn't have the RTLS examples at this point in time.

In your evaluation, please keep in mind that it's important to consider the environment in which you test. Our demo demonstrates the ability to sample raw IQ data and provides an example of how that IQ data can be converted into an angle. However, our demonstration is still suseptible to multi-path conditions. For isntance, you will see poorer performance when the antenna is up against something metalic or is placed in a very small room or next to objects that obscure the receiver from the transmitter. It is best ot evaluate AoA in an anechoic chamber if possible, or in an open space where the receiver is elevated on a tripod for instance if an anechoic chamber is not available. Attached in this app note, you can see an example of the perofrmance in our anechoic chamber: http://www.ti.com/lit/an/tida029/tida029.pdf

There are higher level post processing algorithms available in the market that can be used to eliminate and reduce the effects of mutipath, but we do not offer those as a part of our solution today. We adhear to the Bluetooth specification, which only defines how to take the IQ measurements.

  • Hi Evan Wakefield,

" I will ask our RND as to if there is any reason why the CC13x2 doesn't have the RTLS examples at this point in time. "

Please tell me when and where I can get your feedback from your RND.

    I only have  "LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2" , "BOOSTXL-AOA" and CC1352R1_LAUNCHXL.

I'll decide whether need to buy "CC26X2R1_LAUNCHXL" depend on your feedback.

    Thanks,

    Zou QiZhang

  • Hi Zou,

We haven't had a chance to test AoA performance on the CC1352 yet hence why it doesn't show up in the SDK examples for that device at this point in time. I would use the CC26x2R1 LAUNCHXL for now if that's okay.
