CC2640R2F: Reducing Tx Power to limit the advertisement has any effect on the scanning range?

Part Number: CC2640R2F

Hi All,

just want some clarification on this.

I am reducing the TX-Power of CC2640R2F to limit its advertisement range ,Does that affect the scanning range ?

 Regards

Atul

  • Do you mean to ask if you decrease TX output power, can it impact RX sensitivity on the same device? If that's the question, the answer is no.

  • Hi Chen,

    thanks for the reply.

Yes , I am Keeping the Tx power as -21DBm on my device does it affect the Rx sensitivity ?

because when i keep Tx power to -21DBm connection is not getting establish that frequent with other CC2440R2F but when i increase the tx power on scanner from -21DBm to -12DBm it is connecting more frequently than -21DBm setting on scanner.

In both the cases the Advertiser is advertising with max output power that is +5DBm.

Scanner is scanning the advertiser with both the settings that is with -21DBM and -12DBM but connection frequency is more with -12DBM compared to -21DBm.

What might be the cause for this any idea or suggestion?

    Regards

  • Hi All,

    Any Suggestions or Updates ?

i am facing connection issues with -21DBM which is set in scanner and the advertiser is having the Tx power setting of +5DB.

when the scanner which has tx power -21DBm tries to connect with the advertiser for short range it connects more frequently but when the scanner

tries connect from increased distance most of the time it fails.

Any suggestion or inputs to improve the communication..!!

    Regards,

    Atul

  • If you decrease TX power, the advertising packet could reach out to less distance and I think it’s normal that another CC2640R2F is less possible to connect.

  • Hi Chen,

    Thanks for response.!

That is correct ,but in my case Tx power of advertiser is +5DB so it should not have issues reaching the advertising packet to the scanner,

i am reducing the Tx power of Scanner device which is in multirole,i am limiting the multiroles Tx power, and when this tries to connect to the advertiser which has with max Tx power

the multirole many times fails to connect with its 21DBm settings, but if i make the Tx power of same device to -12DBm then it connects the same advertiser more frequently.

in both the scenarios the advertising packet is transmitted with max TX power that is +5DBm. the scanning device is facing issues when Tx power in the scanning multirole is set to minimum.

    Any Suggestions

    Regards,

    Atul

  • If you set Tx power in the scanning multi_role to minimum, it will make advertising device more difficult to receive scanning response from multi_role and I think this is reasonable.

  • Hi Chen,

Sorrry but little confused with the answer, for bit more clarification,

My scanner is one device which has Multi_role in that i am setting Tx power as least,so the least Tx power will affect multirole in getting scan response of other advertiser device even though the advertiser device is advertising with max +5DB power in it?

and multirole is trying to establish connection with other device with +5DB which is not happening everytime.

  • Basically, BLE is two way communication and if the TX power of two communicating sides are different, it's normal to see such issue.

  • Hi Chen,

Thanks For the detailed clarification and prompt response ,

Any way to make it stable or only matching the settings is only solution?

    And thank you so much.

    Regards,

    Atul

  • Yes, I would say matching is the solution to provide best performance.
