LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2: BOOSTXL AoA with LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-01632

Hi Team,

My Customer would like to know the "Repeatability & Accuracy of using BOOSTXL AoA with LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2", do we have this? I already checked most of our documents and I can find any information on these two.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi Renan,

Please note that TI has made the decision to discontinue further development and support of the TI-proprietary Angle of Arrival (AoA) on the CC2640R2. We recommend and welcome our customers using AoA on CC2640R2 to transition from the CC2640R2 to the new RTLS examples based on the Bluetooth 5.1 specification which can be used with the CC13x2R and CC26x2R devices. These software examples can be found in the SimpleLink™ CC13x2 and CC26x2 software development kit 3.40 or later which features a Bluetooth 5.1 qualified stack with support of Bluetooth 5.1 Angle of Arrival. To make this transition, here is a list of available resources you can reference: Simple Link Academy, AoA stack users guide, LaunchPad Tool Order Page

When it comes to the accuracy of the AOA solution, the following points have to be kept in mind:

    • Per the BLE specification, only the IQ data is provided by the BLE Stack. The application is responsible to implement the algorithms to extract the AOA from the IQ data. TI does provide some examples but these algorithms can be significantly improved. Through these improvements each customer can have its own differentiation.
    • The same antennas are used on the TIDA-01632 and the BOOSTXL-AOA. The same accuracy can be expected for both kits.

This app note provides some results for different configurations of antenna. This page provides some results for the BOOSTXL-AOA specifically.

    Best regards,
