Problem connecting the dongle to a PC

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2540

Hello,

I'm a student and just started my graduation assignment.

For this I'm trying to use the CC2540 Mini Development kit.

Now I've encountered a problem with getting the kit to work, when I connect the dongle to my PC it doesn't get recognized.

The dongle does get power from the PC and the CC2540 chip does get recognized by the CC debugger.

These are the steps I took:

-I tried to use two different versions of the SmartRF Flash Programmer.

-With the program I programmed the "cc2540_ble1.0_master_usb_dongle.hex" file to the dongle.

First I connect the debugger to the dongle, then connect it to the PC, select the hex file and use the option "Erase, program and verify"

The chip gets programmed and verified successfully, then I disconnect the dongle from the PC, disconnect the programmer and reconnect the dongle.

When I connect the dongle to the PC nothing happens, no LED's on the dongle turn on, the PC doesn't ask me for drivers nor does it show up in the device manager.

Am I doing anything wrong or is the dongle broken?

Many thanks,

Gijs

  • Have you tried this on more than one PC?

  • Yes, I've tried the dongle on multiple PC's and multiple USB ports.

  • When I finish programming the usbDongle with simplePeripheral hex file, the red led turns on without taking it out. (it is off while programming).  Are you seeing this? Also, I guess you could try and hook up IAR and see if you can download and set a break point and check the program is running since you seem to have CC debugger working ok.  The other issues I've seen in training include - Windows7 which works sometimes, but not always. I use XP.   I've also seen where it required internet connection after driver was found in C:\Texas Instruments\BLE-CC2540\Accessories\Drivers.

  • Greg,

Thanks a lot for your effort/input but I just got the development kit to work.

It seems my swrc file got somehow installed incorrectly (multiple times). All the .hex files were where they should be and the programmer tried to program the .hex to the dongle but no LED's would turn on and the device wouldn't get recognized. After completely removing the entire software package, downloading and installing swrc207 I finally managed to program the device correctly and it got recognized immediately after.

I still don't know what went wrong with the previous installations but I'm glad I finally got both kits (we bought a second kit to rule out the possibility of a faulty device) to work.

    Best regards,

  • Hi guys,

I am also working on a project and I am using CC1111 dongle. I uploaded the program through the debugger form IAR workbench and the nodes communicate fine. But when i plug the usb dongle into other PC to read the output from the hyperterminal, it doesn't detect the USB. I have tried on different computers but no response. Can anyone tell me how can i fix this problem?
