CC2640R2F: Reading issue in connection mode with BLE 5.X supported mobile

Part Number: CC2640R2F

Hi Team,

Success rate while doing communication in connection mode over BLE 4.x only using mobile (as client) with CC2640R2F(as server) in two cases....

1. While using BLE 5.X supported mobile - success rate is approx 70%

2. While using BLE 4.X supported mobile - success rate is approx 95%

Apart from this one observation is...

With few mobiles like Asus (BLE 5.X Supported)facing issue while like samsung (BLE 5.X Supported) has good success rate.

Kindly let us know what could be the reason of getting more failures while using BLE 5.X mobile ?

Is there any bug in SDK or this other issue ?

Regards,

Bhavin

  • Hi Bhavin,

May I ask you to specify which SDK version you are using?

I will ask a concerned engineer to comment,

    Thanks and regards,

  • Bhavin,

We've observed in the past some connection issues with phones that are out-of-spec in certain aspects; for example, phones that generate connection events with intervals shorter than the minimum 7.5 ms.

Our recommendation is to study the communication between the phone and your TI-based device using a BLE packet sniffer. This sniffer will produce logs that can reveal anomalies in the communication patterns.

We're not aware of any defect on our SDK nor a reason that a BLE 5.x device would produce a smaller success rate.

    Thanks,

    Luis

  • Hi,

    We are using SDK 2.30.00.28

    Bhavin

  • Luis,

Thanks for information. As i know sniffer is not able to show connection mode packets right ? I mean when two BLE connected at that time what data packets convey between them is not able to see. If i am wrong then can you please assist how can i use sniffer to sniff connection mode RF packets.

    Regards,

    Bhavin

  • Hello Bhavin,

BLE packet sniffers can indeed follow connections.

Some examples of packet sniffers are Ellisys, Teledyne Lecroy  (both expensive) and our own very-low-cost sniffer. If you use our sniffer, I recommend disabling encryption and pairing for better performance.

    Thanks,

    Luis

  • Hi Luis,

We have BLE Sniffer which we were using with BLE Sniffer software which was not able to capture connection mode packets. So as per your last reply can we use same hardware with "smart RF Sniffer agent ".

    Regards,

    Bhavin
