CC2640R2F: BT4.2 Option?

Hi,

I want to make sure I'm interpreting the OAD item correctly. Do we have the option of supporting BT4.2? If so, is on-chip OAD possible? If we go the BT5.0 route, it seems some amount of external flash will be needed to support OAD. You mention potential limitations with this approach, can you expand on those limits?

In an ideal scenario we would pick up BT5.0. The downside is very few smartphones support the BT5.0 features we're interested in (coded PHY and extended advertising PDU's) and have instead focused on the 2Mb PHY for their BT5.0 support. If most phones continue to lack those key BT5.0 features, then we're not really moving the needle past BT4.2 for our application. Net is I'll be working to balance future proofing this proj vs. potential system limitations that BT5.0 could introduce.

Hey Adam,

As YK mentioned, we have examples on the CC2640R2 with the BLE 4.2 stack for on/off chip OAD in our SDK today.

Unfortunately, due to memory limitations on the CC2640R2, we do not have any examples of OAD using the BLE 5 stack. The BLE 5 stack features requires more memory leaving little room for an OAD application.

Thanks for the help! If we go down the BLE 5 path, then yes we would want OAD capability. Which part would you recommend that can support this requirement? Do you have something with more memory?
