Looking for 3D AC magnetic field simulator

I'm beginning preliminary work towards design of an RFID reader to read ISO 11785 RF tags. The nominal frequency of operation is 134.2kHz. Transceivers operate by AC magnetic field coupling.

To aid in the preliminary design of the reader transmit/receive coil, I am wanting to acquire software that will let me look at AC magnetic field strength in 3D space based on differing coil geometries. Does anyone on the forum have experience with any such software that they could recommend, or NOT recommend?

  • Hi, I have only good experience with Comsol 4.0a. Easy to use, you can download some RFID models on Comsol´s web page as well as tutorials. Software it self is very sophisticated but not so difficuld to hendle it.

    Good luck.

  • Agilent's ADS Analog Development Software has 2  3-D softwar engines and numerous untillies programs including s-parameters.   The software supports import of board gerber files making easy setup of RF simuiations with PCB boards.  Antenna as well as RFID examples are plentiful with this software.   It can be leased by  the month or purchased.   The accuracy has been good for us including anechoic chamber measurments.
