CC2592: Problems with Half Harmonics

Part Number: CC2592
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2591, CC2500,

Hello,

We have developed a Custom RF Design with CC2500 and 2592 to realize a narrow band FHSS System. It is very close to the reference design of the 2530-2592 Ref Design. In previous Designs we used a CC2591, which workes for Years without Problem in several Board revisions and Antenna Types.

Now we use the CC2592 as you recommend for new designs. Its shall be more stable which i unfortunaltely cannot find. We have designed 3 totally different Boards with all the same scematics, but in different contextes. 2Layer, 4 Layer and 6Layer with impendance controlled manufacturing. Some very small, others with more real estate.

Now our Problem: If an Antenna is used, that is not 100% 50Ohm perfect, we get a very strong Tone at exactly half the transmitting frequency. This happens if the Output power is above about +8dbm, it does not happen on lower power. I tried lots of changes, to get a change in this behaviour, but only sensitivity and power output changes, and not this behaviour. On other posts i hear, that it is a stability problem.

With a correct matched and mounted antenna, the performance of all 3 Boards is perfect! Even with a badly matched one, the performave ist still as expected, apart from the tone.

Attached is an example of one of the designs (4-Layer Board, Shunt turned out 6.2nH to be optimal) Components values are 1:1 ref design. Many thanks for Help.

I like to understand what ma^y be changed to get the cc2592 more stable against not perfect antennas?
