CC8531: 4T-1R wireless microphone system, it works fine except that one out of 4 microphone will switch off automatically, and the time of duration is ramdom.

Part Number: CC8531
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC85XXDK-HEADSET-RD, CC85XX-CC2590EM-RD

Hi,

We are making a 4T -1R wireless microphone system,it works fine except that one out of 4 microphone will switch off automatically,  and the time of duration is ramdom, and it seems that the failure one is always the last one connected to the master/RX.

For example, the microphone named as  A, B, C, D, paired and connected to the master/RX in turn, then  D may turn off automatically, either in standby or recording mode, after D reconnected, we turn A off and on to reconnect (as the last one), then A may turn off itself.

The working mode is:  ADC(48K @ 16 bit), SLAC ---TX (4 channel)  ------ Wireless ------ RX --- I2S,   We have turned off the internal auto off settings including low voltage, losing connection and time-out, and the reset pin is pulled-high, etc;  The RF condition seems to be OK to reach 8 meters stable TX, and this issue happen independent to transmit distance.

What could be the problem, and how to probe?

Thanks to advise.

  • Hi BICHUN YU,

You can read more about timeouts from the CC85XX User's Guide and control Automatic power-down/reduction values from the Power Management module of the PurePath Wireless Configurator.  Are you implying that these have already been modified without any effect on the behavior?  So there are no issues when only three microphones are paired/connected, but adding a fourth will cause the problem?

  • Hi, Ryan

Thank you very much for your prompt reply.

Our first reaction is also to check the power management / time out triggers, but it seems no problem there as picture below, even we disable the 300s time out power down option, no change on the result.

It is always OK with only 3 microphones connected, and problem occur with the 4th connected microphone.

Before the 4th fail, we switch off one of the other microphone and connecte again, that one will become the 4th one connected with master and that one will power down automatically sooner or later, in either standby or recording state.

Any more tips? or where can we probe to have some log/indicators?

  • Can you replicate this behavior with TI-provided boards such as the CC85XXDK-HEADSET-RD/CC85XX-CC2590EM-RD, or is it only apparent on your custom hardware?  You could run PER tests or measure the RSSI to ensure that the network communication is not being interfered with.  There are other PPWCFG Panel settings of interest including the Radio (maximum slave count, used RF channels) and Advanced Options (data rate, protocol version, timeslot period/alignment).  Please try different configurations to determine whether you can achieve better results.
