TRF7960A: Question on receiver input impedance (matching) for TRF7960A

Part Number: TRF7960A

Dear TI Experts,

We find tx impedance matching section in the datasheet, so we are curious that we don't seem to need to care about Rx matching. As we find input impedance of Rx is 10kohm (typ), partly we understand that we hope most energy received would be fed into the chip, for that large input impedance is possibly required.  However, we are still confused that why we are taking care of Tx impedance for the sake of antenna matching, but not do that for Rx impedance? And how do we ensure or tuning Rx RFID antenna performance in that case? Hope someone can shed some light on it. Would appreciate the help.

  Regards,

Yuanchen

  • Hello Yuanchen,

I think the voltage matching is more important for the RX. But nevertheless, the reference design in chapter 7.1.2 of the datasheet can be considered as a known optimized matching between IC and 50 Ohm reference point TP8. This way it is only necessary to tune and match a customized antenna also to 50 Ohm for best performance (with the components to the right of R5).

    Best regards,

    Andreas.
