Hello,

I am currently working with the TRF7960 EVM, and I would like to know whether it is possible to load my own program( hex file ) through the JTAG connector. I am not willing to modify the existing program which works fine, but I want to add some application - specific features.

yes, you can do this - the JTAG connector is populated on the board for download and development/debug purposes.

As Josh said, the JTAG header is populated on the EVM for development/debug purposes. To program/debug the MSP430, you will need the MSP-FET430UIF tool.

Also, please note that the JTAG header on the TRF7960EVM is 12 pins and the MSP-FET430UIF is 14 pins. The last two pins are unused on the EVM, so just be sure that you line up pin 1 on the EVM header(marked pin 1) and JTAG cable(red stripe).

@eddie, is the MSP-FET430UIF tool the only JTAG emulator that supports the MSP430?? I have a SpectrumDigital XDS510 USB and haven't been able to get it to connect to my TRF7960A EVM board. The header on the board is 12pin vs 14pin connector on the XDS510 but I just tried lining up pin 1 like you said to see if it would work...

Unfortunately, XDS510 does not support the MSP430. The MSP-FET430UIF is the only JTAG emulator for MSP430 I have used. It looks like Elprotronic has some as well.

Hello Eddie,

Where can I get a complete source code for the EVM module? Is it even possible? I got a sample code that is doing tag scan. But I would like to have a complete a functionality on unit that I am developing right now so I can debug and test writing/reading tags and other things interactively. For number of reasons I had to use RF7960 with AVR32 uController. I already have USB interface and can implement a virtual com port on the PC. I also ported a tag scanning demo for TFR7960 and it is working. Right now I'd like to port entire EVM demo code to my platform so I can use a Windows interface to test complete functionality of my device.

Howdy,

This is not a reply to your post, I appologise. I am trying to get some help with this matter:

We have a TRF7960EVM board. I need some guidance on trying to compile the source codes provided for the GUI application and the Firmware. I need to build a custom application using the board. I am currently using Microsoft Visual Studio 2010. Should I be using any other platform??
