Advice on choosing a product

Hello TI community,

I am looking to implement RFID into a current product and would like some suggestions regarding product purchase. I would like to track miners as they come in and out of mine shafts. I am thinking of attaching a RFID card transponder to the battery packs and would like to know what controller module / antenna would best suited for this application. I am looking for a controller which has USB capabilities as well as being robust as it will be exposed to a harsh environment.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi Juan,

You can use TI LF RFID technology for tracking miners. You can use e.g. RI-CTL-MB2B-30 + RI-RFM-007B-30 and RI-TRP-R9TD-30 or other tag form factor dependent on read range requirements. Have a look at the links below:

Thanks for the reply, I have decided to go ahead and get the units which you mentioned in your post as well as an antenna. As a follow up question, how does the system deal with multiple antennas. If I wanted to set up more than one gate, how would I go about implementing that. Would I need some sort of multiplexer or is there a way to set up the modules in a network where one module controls all the other modules? As far as software solutions, do you know of any software packages by TI or third parties that would be able to control the MB2B and manage the stored information?
