For a project for library management system , i will be using TRF7960 , the tag will be pasted on books , now i have trf7960evm it detects tag for a very short distance , i want to increase range of antenna how i can do that..while interfacing it with trf7960 , plz give detailed solution , i am new to rf technology..

    The easiest way to increase the range is to increase the size of the antenna. 

    What is the desired read range? 

    What tag/s will you be using? 

    Will you have the situation where you want to read a stack of tagged books?  If so, how many books and how high will they be stacked? 

    The next method is to add an amplifier, but I highly recommend seeing if you can accomplish your required read range just by increasing the antenna size.  The amplifier will likely add unwanted complexity. 

    You will find plenty of threads on this forum regarding 13.56MHz antenna tuning.  Also, please take a look at the antenna tuning section of the TRF7960TB users guide.

    My desired range is nearly 10 cm for onne tag using one antenna and i prefer to use passive tag now because in library there are lots of books so active tag is not cost effective..

    i will be having a situation where i need to monitor a book stack kept in one compartment of shelf continuously through a antenna , the compartment length can be kept near to 10-15 cm and shelf will contain near to 5 compartment and below is the daigram  for this , the stick showing is antenna , this is one of proposed diagram.

    in my design , u can see there are many antenna needed for one shelf , will it will create disturbance in there working or for example are interfering the book will be detected by both antenna .

     

    I started working on trf7960 evm to get familiar with rf technology and now my next step is to start hardware setup of prototype using trf7960 from scratch , how i can start with it some basic help so i choose a right path , few tutorials or links which explain how i increase antenna range.
