RF430FRL152H: The Debug Interface to the device has been secured

Is this error only on one RF430FRL152H device or multiple devices? I want to know if this is an isolated unit having this message. 

What debug probe do you use?

Have you tried your debug probe on a RF430FRL152HEVM?

It is a isolated unit for the secure issue.

We apply TI MSP-FETFlash Emulation Tool to flash/debug the RF430FRL152H.

We would like to know what happens to this unit.

The tiny clue is the fuse blown for MSP430 chip but RF430FRL152H from the forum.

Would it be the same reason?

 - Does the problem occur on this device the first time you use it or it has been working before and suddenly you are seeing the error message?

- Do you remember what was stored in the device vs other devices that do not have the issue.

I wonder if you have overwritten JTAG enable register with a value that disable JTAG access. Can you try to enable JTAG access by writing the correct value to the password register. I hope it will resolve your issue.

We flash several MCUs with the same image.

But only one RF430FRL152H gets this issue.

There is no password is set or enabled for all MCUs.

Would you please tell us how to release for this issue?  (ICE setting or somehow to unlock)

Ok. This means your firmware did not enable JTAG password protection.

Can you please read the JTAG Password Enable register from this device and compare with other working devices? Do you see any difference?

If the JTAG is not password protected which is the only thing I can think of that might have locked out the debugger, I can't think of another reason why it would lock out. 

Can you tell me if this unit had been programmed in the past with success? What I want to know is if this unit is giving the error the first time you use it or it was working for several times until you saw the error message.

Is this a custom board or it is the EVM?

That unit is custom board and was successful to flash several times (3 or 4 times).

The unit is lock that can't be accessed by ICE.

So, it cannot write  0x39 to address 0xF87D by our code.

It is possible to unlock the unit by other way?

  I'm not aware of a way to unlock the device but let me do some research too.

We can not flash new image for writing 0x39 to address 0xF87D.

So, the post would not work for us.

Hi Chris,

Do you have the TRF7970ABP + EXP430G2 Launchpad reader? Can you try to use the RF430FRL152H GUI to program "over the air" with a default project? Download the example firmware from www.ti.com/lit/zip/slac691, and load the SensorHub example to have the same functionality as in the EVM. See if this will work.

Is it any chance to unlock the unit by "MSP-FETFlash Emulation Tool" ?

It is hard to have other ICE or do you have TRF7970ABP + EXP430G2 Launchpad reader?

Hi Chris,

  I don't know why is your board locked if you have not done anything intentionally to lock out JTAG. As you have stated you have the same firmware across all the boards you have and this is the only one that is not accessible by JTAG.  I have searched the forum extensively and find no solution how to unlock the device if your JTAG interface is somehow locked. This is why I suggested to try reprogramming the firmware through the RF. Can you use any reader to read from 0xF87D? Can you also use your reader to read 0xFFD0? What are the values at 0xF87D and 0xFFD0?

It is bad news for this unit. It can't read the data from NFC.

The NFC module does not work well somehow. 

It can't be flashed nor NFC read. I am not sure there is any way to access this unit.

Hi Chris,

  I run of ideas as to how to recover your board. I hope you can continue your developments with other boards you have. I will continue to do some searches and if I find a solution I will post back here.
