TRF7962A: Operating Temperature Range and Operating virtual junction temperature

Part Number: TRF7962A

Tool/software:

Dear Specialists,

My customer is considering TRF7962A and has a question.

I would be grateful if you could advise.

---

The TRF7962A has two thermal operating conditions: ambient temperature and junction temperature.

For the operating ambient temperature,
does the IC ambient temperature inside the product need to be taken into account? (internal temperature of the product with the IC built in, internal temperature rise)

Does this mean that the operating ambient temperature needs to be met in addition to the junction temperature?

---

I appreciate your great help in advance.

Best regards,

Shinichi

    Hi Shinichi-san,

Yes, you need to make sure the ambient temperature along with the power dissipation across the IC does not exceed the junction temperature.

    θJA = (TJ - TA) )/PD

Where TJ is the junction temperature,

    TA is the ambient temperature

PD is the power dissipation across the IC which causes the rise in junction temperature.

  • Hi Charles,

    Thank you for your reply.

I understand both ambient temperature and junction temperature must be met.

    I'll share with the customer.

I appreciate your great help and cooperation.

    Best regards,

    Shinichi
