CC1101-PCB-Batch to Batch Variation

Hi,

At our lab we have two different batch of PCBs of same design, ordered at different time, from the same vendor, (say Batch-1 and Batch-2), and my observation as follows,

1. The Packet Tx & Rx communication works fine between the Batch-1 boards and no change in the Smart RF tool is required.

2. The Packet Tx & Rx communication works fine between the Batch-2 boards and no change in the Smart RF tool is required.

3. When the Packet Tx & Rx communication tested between Batch-1 board and Batch-2 board, there was no packet transfer. When the Rx Filter Bandwidth at the receiver side is increased (for 2.4kBaud, the Rx BW increased to 222kHz), then the Packet transfer works fine.

So, my query is, How to over come this situation, and establish the Packet transfer between different batch of boards?

Please clarify.

Kamesh Kumar S

  • Could you check if there is a frequency difference between the two batches? If you set a few board to send at a given frequency setting for batch1 and batch2 and see if they actually sends on the same frequency.

  • Hi,

Thanks for your response. When the boards are made for continuous Tx @ 868MHz, and seen on the spectrum analyzer with the settings Span = 1MHz and RBW=30kHz, each boards shows different frequencies, but all around 868MHz. But it is sure that there is Frequency Offset between each board even if it is of same batch. The Crystals and other Passive values are same as recommended by TI.

  • Have you double checked that the XTAL load capacitors on the two designs are the same? That nothing has wrong has happened when the boards where mounted? Try to swap first the load capacitors from boards of batch 1 to board with batch 2 and see if the board with batch 2 then can communicate with batch 1. If not, then thy to swap the xtal.
