Unfortunately, due to certain circumstances I didn't have time to respond to the last post in the thread. The thread was closed.

So I'm creating a separate thread.

I managed to get 1.5M bitrate and I'm very grateful the Team & personally to for the help with this.

I have a question now: are the same (as for 1.5V) overrides suitable for getting 2M bitrate?

    The RnD team member got back to me, and confirmed that the overrides for 2 mbps will likely be different from what we used before, however they will need to get into the lab to test to find the new settings and this will either be a day or early next week.

    I can share preliminary settings but the AGC settings still need optimising.

    If the customer can update the settings later then I can provide those preliminary settings so they can start using it, but the selectivity/blocking performance will be degraded and would therefore need to be improved later.

    Otherwise we will need to resolve that issue before sharing. Please indictate which option works best for the customer.

    I’m using the CC2652R7 devkit.
    Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to receive a single packet, not even one with errors.

    I can see on the spectrum analyzer that the TX is active and appears to be functioning correctly.
    Then I configured two boards using SmartRF Studio — one in Cont. TX mode and the other in Cont. RX mode.
    And observed that the RSSI changes as expected during packet transmission (the boards are connected through an attenuator).

    However, I wasn’t able to receive any packets.
    I tried using an RX bandwidth of 2185.1 kHz, as specified in the configuration file, as well as the calculated value of SymbolRate + 2 × Deviation (the nearest value 3526.2 kHz).
    In both cases, the result was the same — no packets received.

    So I’ll wait for further instructions from your side. Thank you

    Please can you share your settings exported from SmartRF Studio? A good starting point could be to compare it with the original settings (SmartRF Studio 7 can be a bit tricky with custom settings like this).

    I also tried importing your configuration into my own project, where a 1.5 Mbps bitrate is implemented,
    but I still wasn’t able to receive any packets.

  • Hi,

    The settings you shared to not match those in the SmartRF Studio settings I uploaded (I'll call the them "TI settings"). For example, in the TI settings,    .formatConf.fecMode = 0x1,

    whereas in the settings you shared:
    .formatConf.fecMode = 0x0,
    There are quite a few fields that differ; I would recommend performing a diff of the two files and directly comparing them (listing them all here is slower).

    Some points to note
    • You would of course need to add it for the correct device (not the CC1314R10 in the above example). The general steps are the same.
    • The files I used were: /cfs-file/__key/communityserver-discussions-components-files/667/cc1352p7_5F00_2mbps_5F00_smartrf_5F00_studio_5F00_files.zip
    • For successful testing I used the CC1352P7 (it was what I had to hand) but the settings are valid for the CC2652R7, so the settings would be added to the cc1352p7_prop_pg10 folder in the manner described above if also using a CC1352P7.
    • You would need to add it to the CC2652R7 folder instead (I'd say it was the folder cc2652r7_prop_pg10); I would double-check it against an existing proprietary 2.4 GHz PHY for the CC2652R7 just in case there are slight naming differences within the files and you'd need to change something minor.
    Unfortunately I am on leave for a week, if you haven't had any luck by then I can reply to your questions when I am back.

    Finally, I had the opportunity to apply your prelim. settings and recommendations to my project.

    I was able to successfully transmit and receive packets.

    However, I am currently observing packet loss ranging from 13% to 25%.

    What would you recommend in this case?

    We need some pieces of information to better diagnose this:

    • Are you using SmartRF Studio 7 for initial testing? 
    • Are you able to do a PER vs Input Level test across the dynamic range of the device (sweep from roughly -110 dBm to -20 dBm) and share the results? Just using SmartRF Studio 7 initially to confirm that the settings are what are expected.
    • Please share the latest settings exported from SmartRF Studio 7 (as a sanity check that nothing has unexpectedly changed).

    Point 2 (the PER vs Input Level plot) is the most important here.

    A: No, I used CCS 20.1.1.8__1.7.1 plus Simplelink_cc13xx_cc26xx_sdk_8_30_01_01 SDK.

    So expected RSSI is near -55 dBm, but each received packet at 2M data rate was received with -92 to -95 dBm RSSI.

    By the way at the 1.5M data rate I see -52 to -53 dBm RSSI and 0% of loss with the same HW setup.

    A: I think so. But I need some more time to tame the SmartRF. Will do it ASAP

    last week I had time to configure SmartRF Studio using the configuration you provided.

    Indeed, simply copying the configuration didn’t solve the issue, so I had to dig into it a bit.

    In the end, I achieved less than 1% PER on a large number of packets.

    However, I haven’t yet had the time to run the PER vs Input Level test. I hope to complete the remaining tests during the week and will upload the report here.

    I used two identical LP-CC2652R7 boards (CC2652R7 LaunchPad Development Kit), connected to each other with a cable.

    The losses in the cable and connectors are 0.5 dBm.

    As a reference, I also provided similar measurements for the 1.5 Mbps settings.

    In the screenshots, you can see strange drops in the RSSI values, which do not occur when the attenuator value is high. Interestingly, these drops are observed both in Continuous RX mode and in packet transmission mode, where the received packet either has a very low RSSI or a reception error.

  • Hi,

    As Input Power levels start to increase above ~>-20 dBm the RSSI error will start to increase (it is PHY settings dependent) but the screenshot at -66 dBm is not the expected behaviour (to my knowledge).

    Do you know at which Input Level this starts occuring?

    I am on leave from next week (I will notify a team member about this issue in my absence) and the main R&D team member who supported this PHY is also not back for several weeks.

    I will see if other team members have insight on this behaviour as it did not show up during our testing and if I can try and recreate the issue tomorrow I will, but I cannot guarantee I will have the time.
